Ryan Cunningham is a seasoned administrator with nearly two decades of experience designing systems that deliver real-world, project-based learning for students. From classroom science teacher to Okoboji Middle School Principal, Teaching & Learning Director, and now Superintendent of Sumner‑Fredericksburg and Director of Teaching & Learning for Future Frontiers, Ryan has built coherent district-level frameworks that make experiential learning routine, rigorous, and equitable.

He has led the development and scaling of programs such as Midmester Academy (project-based course strands), No Boundaries (community-mentored STEM projects), Curious Minds (3D design, coding, AI, VR with STEM BEST funding), career-focused pathways serving 200+ middle graders, Capstone presentations, and internship classes for aspiring educators. These systems pair high‑quality curriculum adoption, MTSS supports, standards‑based assessment, and structured community partnerships so student projects address authentic problems while meeting clear learning outcomes.

Ryan’s approach centers on sustainability and capacity building: aligning budgets and facilities, training and mentoring educators, creating employer and community mentor networks, and embedding assessment and reporting practices that value mastery. He leads with a stewardship mindset to expand mastery‑based, project‑driven opportunities that empower students and maximize future success upon graduation.
